An Aladdin’s cave of homely treasures Pitfield London is the brainchild of interior designer Shaun Clarkson and textile designer Paul Brewster.

Offering everything from quirky china and glassware and statement vintage furniture, to cleaning and kitchen utensils - there really is something for everyone, (or I could just take it all!).

Shaun saw the space available below his established design firm, and saw an opportunity for a great retail store. He was inspired by other shops

“Build a business around something you love, not think of a business and try to form a love around it, and you will be successful”...”

where “you can sit down and have a cup of coffee and if you like the cup you can purchase it, or if you like the chair you are sitting on you can take it home with you”.

The Boundary Hotel can be found nestled on the corner of Redchurch and Boundary Street, opening on New Year’s Eve in 2008, it is a collaborative project between Prescott and Conran Limited.

What began as primarily a restaurant facility is now home to a prestigious boutique hotel catering to the creative area of East London.

The Boundary Hotel offers 12 spacious and impeccably designed rooms and 5 suites for guests to choose from.

Sir Terence Conran oversaw the entire project, and each room has been individually designed by legendary figures in the design world, or a specific design movement that the owners regard as influential.

Shaun Clarkson is a celebrated interior designer, whose eclectic style and trade-mark ‘colour pops’ have graced the pages of every decorating bible, so to say as an interior lover that I was excited is a mild understatement.

Shaun opened the front door to his Georgian home with a welcoming smile and politely ushered us into his kitchen. My mouth was open for most of the interview and I believe that I told him I was moving in more times than probably appropriate.

“Shaun hadn’t always set out to be an interior designer, rather, it has been more of an evolutionary process...”

Having graduated with a Fine Arts degree he got his first gig in the late eighties with friend and nightclub owner, Oliver Peyton, making installations for Absolut and later his RAW nightclub.

The Claridge’s Christmas tree has been a sensation for the last few years not only for the hotel’s guests but also for all Londoners who marvel at its magnificent design. For four years now the Mayfair hotel invites longstanding partners to create the tree including Albert Elbaz for Lanvin or John Galliano.

This year it is Kally Ellis, an international force in flowers
