Battersea's Marvellous Milliner!![]()
Bundle McLaren, one of London's most unique and sought-after milliners answers questions on the royal wedding, Paloma Faith, and hats fit for a Princess.... by Natasha Colyer
t’s ‘Hats off!’ to one of London’s most unique and exciting Milliners! Bundle MacLaren’s beautiful designs first came to be just three years ago, after feeling there was a gap in the market for original, fun and affordable headpieces. Through her business she has successfully managed to intertwine all these desired traits and with impressively unique results!
Bundle’s sculptural and artistic influences are clear in her work; she is inspired by architecture, modern art and nature-from autumn leaves and African birds to exotic sunsets. This beauty is conveyed through the end results of her pieces.
Affordability being a key priority, prices range from £40 to £200.
Most hats are sold privately, but some are sold on a few select online boutiques and shops around the UK and Europe. This ensures wherever you are, there is no excuse to attend that all-important event looking anything but stylish!
MY DAY
I get woken by my two little girls at 6am. I spend my mornings looking after them and playing in Battersea Park.
I then start work in my studio at 12pm where I will spend an hour processing orders, replying to emails, ordering millinery supplies etc. I then spend the afternoons with clients doing hat fittings.
MY PROUDEST MOMENT
The first time I had a design featured in Vogue. That’s a really exciting moment for any designer.
MY FAVOURITE DESIGN
One of the commissions I did for the Royal Wedding last year which was a Lady Amherst pheasant feather pillbox adorned with a 40 inch sculpted natural pheasant tail feather.
DREAM PERSON TO WEAR MY HATS
Paloma Faith. She wears a hat like nobody else - to the extent that she looks undressed without one!
MOST UNIQUE REQUEST
I had a bride recently who was having an incredibly elaborate 3 day wedding in Marrakech and wanted a different headpiece for each phase.
I made her 6 designs in total and each look was completely different and ranged in style from a classic tulle veil to a peacock feathered headdress, a mock snakeskin and ostrich feather cocktail hat, a canary yellow pheasant feather, a bohemian floral head wreath and a sequinned vintage style pillbox.
HAT FOR A PRINCESS
A Princess should dress stylishly rather than fashionably. Yves Saint Laurent said ‘Fashion is fleeting whereas style is timeless’. So I would dress a Princess in something like my Willow design which is classic, stylish and ageless.
