Roti Chai does not disappoint with great Indian food despite the budget price tag ...By Fiona Maclean
o you sometimes yearn for spicy food? I know I do – and Roti Chai, just off Oxford Street is a fabulous place to try. Go during the day for the café upstairs, or if you want a more extravagant experience wait till evening to try the lush restaurant downstairs.
I was served a series of fragrant dishes, all beautifully presented and delicately spiced. Unlike many indian restaurants, Roti Chai has quite a short but carefully explained menu. The spicing is precise to each dish, so that you enjoy a varied meal.
Papri chaat, a dish of spiced puris, chutneys and yoghurt was beautifully presented, and very moreish. We loved the hakka chilli paneer with tender paneer in a very hot sauce - not for the faint hearted. The chicken lollipops were delicious morsels of spiced chicken to be eaten as finger food. We tried two of the main courses and both were excellent. The chicken Manchurian was a well balanced spicy Chinese fusion dish.
